Frances to speak at YES! Magazine’s Celebration of People Power

June 5, 2012

Frances returns to Town Hall in Seattle the evening of June 6 to speak at YES! Magazine’s second annual Celebration of People Power. Can’t make it to Seattle? No problem. YES! Magazine will be live streaming the event from their web page starting at 7 p.m. here. Along with Frances, special guests will include Pulitzer Prize-winning author and poet Alice Walker and musician and activist Makana, whose slack-key guitar playing has brought him to venues across the globe, including the White House.

Frances and Alice will share the stage, along with emcee Puanani Burgess, opening a dialogue with the goal of inspiring participants to deepen their involvement in movements they care about, and leave with a heightened sense of their individual capabilities. Afterwards, Makana will play live during a reception.

If you live in Seattle or are travelling in the area, tickets for the celebration can be purchased here. In addition to hearing the guests speak and perform, event-goers are welcome to a reception afterward featuring local drinks and delicious desserts (we apologize in advance to those tuning in online!).

Frances is a contributing editor with YES! and has written more than a dozen articles for the non-profit magazine, which has also run stories from influential figures including Bill McKibben, Van Jones, and Colin Beavan (better known as “No Impact Man”). Frances’ most recent piece for YES!, "Free Your (Eco)Mind," was published on April 20.
